OSUN MONARCH CALLS FOR CULTURAL RE-AWAKENING
A prominent traditional ruler in Osun State, the Eburu of Iba, Oba Adekunle Okunoye has called on the government at all levels to develop the tourism sector, for the economic development of the country.
Besides, the monarch called for the reawakening of cultural and traditional values of the Yoruba people, which he described as the best in the world.
To this end, the monarch tasked the government of all Yoruba speaking states in the country to develop the culture and tradition of the Yoruba race.
Oba Okunoye who is also a professor of Information Communication Technology spoke at the maiden Eburu Adekunle cultural renaissance held in In, headquarters of Ifelodun North Area office of Osun State.
He noted that the culture of Yoruba people is gradually going into extinction due to the poor recognition given to it by the Yoruba people and inability to promote it.
He said foreigners appreciate the culture and tradition of the Yoruba People more than the Yorubas themselves, and therefore called for a change of orientation about Yoruba culture, saying that promotion of culture and tradition does not translate to religious rebellion.
He lauded the Governor Gboyega Oyetola led administration for the values placed on culture, just as he commended the governor for his developmental strides in the last two years that he took over the reins of government in the state.
He said the state is blessed with various historical and tourist centres capable of attracting foreign investors to the state.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Obawale Adebisi who represented the Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola assured that the state government will develop all tourist centres in the state to serve as means of generating revenue.
He also assured that the state government will collaborate with traditional rulers in the state to identify tourist centres and tap into the economic benefits of the tourism sector.
He also challenged well meaning individuals in the country to invest in the tourism sector, just as he tasked the people to promote culture rather than castigating it in the name of religion.
