Osun Trade Fair 2025: Governor Adeleke, FG committed to position local content for global market

OSUN TRADE FAIR 2025: GOVERNOR ADELEKE, FG COMMITTED TO POSITION LOCAL CONTENT FOR GLOBAL MARKET

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has disclosed the readiness of his administration to work closely with Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to open wider channels for made-in-Osun goods in the international markets.

Governor Adeleke made this known at the opening ceremony for the 2025 Osun Trade Fair, held at Aje International Market, Ido-Osun, Osun State.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bobagunwa Teslim Igbalaye stated that Adeleke’s administration is ready to partner with development agencies and private investors to strengthen small and medium enterprises, noting that Osun-made products, which include honey, cocoa, garri, adire black soap and crafts already meet global standards, as they remain some of the best in the country.

“We are also establishing industrial clusters and Agro-processing zones in a bid to increase production and add value. We believe strongly that these facilities will position Osun as a leading hub for agro-allied and creative industries in the Southwest.”

In his welcome address, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Dr. Bunmi Jenyo highlighted the event as a vibrant showcase of Osun State’s resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.

He said under the visionary leadership of Governor Adeleke, Osun is undergoing a systemic transformation in its commercial and industrial sectors through policies aimed at innovation, investment attraction and inclusive economic growth.

“In Osun , we are prepared”, the Commissioner stated, outlining a strategy focused on strengthening local industries and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, enhancing value addition to meet international standards.

Rev. Dr. Jenyo also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support local producers of famous Adire fabrics, artisans, food processors and farmers who form the backbone of Osun’s economy, promising continued support for expansion, job creation and export.

He urged all the stakeholders at the trade fair to uphold quality, consistency, and collaboration as pillars for success to envisioning a state where every made-in-Osun product can compete globally.

In a speech by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Federal Government expressed appreciation to the State government “for hosting this crucial gathering”.

“The theme you have chosen — “Positioning Local Contents for Global Market” — is a pertinent gateway to global ambition, and a very bedrock of the renewed economic vision of the Federal Government. It is a clarion call for every entrepreneur, every manufacturer, and every craftsman in Nigeria to raise their gaze from local success to global dominance”.

“For us at the Ministry, local content is not merely about physical production, it is about retaining value, fostering indigenous innovation, and ensuring that goods Made in Nigeria are synonymous with world-class quality and competitiveness.As we strive from local excellence to global competitiveness, our collective journey must now shift from import substitution to export penetration. To successfully position our local contents on the global market, we must move on three critical strategic pillars of quality assurance, market access, and sustainable financing”.

“We understand that local manufacturers face immense hurdles, ranging from quality control to securing capital, that is why the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, is actively implementing policies and leveraging its parastatals to ensure these pillars are firm and supportive for every Nigerian business.Our current initiatives and ongoing programs are laser-focused on overcoming these systemic challenges”.

“Today, I throw a challenge to the vibrant community of entrepreneurs in Osun State; I challenge you to utilize these platforms. Attend the NEPC training sessions, engage with the BOI for your expansion plans, and ensure every product you showcase here is subjected to SON’s rigorous standards”.

“The next global textile giant could be weaving in Osun. The next world-leading agricultural processor could be based in Ilesa, and the Ministry stands ready to be your most reliable partner in this journey of economic transformation.Let me conclude by stating that we are not just selling products; we are working towards the exportation of Nigerian ingenuity, resilience, and quality”.

Also in a goodwill message by the Director General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso who appreciated the State Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture (OSSUCIMA) for championing the Trade Fair, lauded Governor Adeleke’s active participation in the Africa Raw Materials Summit 2025.

Recall that Governor Adeleke was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Dr. Jenyo at the Summit and the Council appreciated his unique contribution.

Represented by the Director SIESD, Dr. Mrs Edith Obi, the Council poured encomium on Governor Ademola Adeleke and recognized the presence of other Federal Government establishments, private bodies, SMEs, and business owners, whose participation have enriched the Trade Fair to fulfill the promise of positioning the local content for global market success.
