OSUN, BOI IN PARTNERSHIP TO EMPOWER BENEFICIARIES OF SKILLS UPGRADE, ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

In a bid to further improve the economic activities and welfare of the people, Osun state Government has collaborated with the Bank of Industry (BOI) to provide financial support to beneficiaries of the Osun 2024 Skills Upgrade and Entrepreneurship Development Programme.

The Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bunmi Jenyo disclosed that Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, in ensuring that the people live a better life, designed the programme to provide job opportunities, reduce poverty and banish hunger in the State.

He also stated that it is time for governance and not party politics as beneficiaries were carefully selected across the state irrespective of religious or political affiliation.

According to the Commissioner, upon fulfilment of necessary documentation, beneficiaries are to be given between one million to five million Naira loan to improve their businesses and generate more direct and indirect jobs among the people of the State.

He further disclosed that a desk office will soon be situated in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Abeere to assist beneficiaries with application processes.

Rev. Jenyo who appreciated the Bank Of Industry for its timely cooperation to support Osun state in its relentless efforts to grow her economy.

The Governor disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the Osun Trade Fair 2024, held on Thursday, 28th November at Aje International Market, Ido-Osun.

According to the Governor, the critical roles that industry, trade and commerce can play in driving the economic development and growth in the State cannot be underestimated.

“That is why we have made it a priority to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and support initiatives that promote local content development and value chain enhancement”, he said.

According to him, “our goal is to ensure that Osun State changes from being a core civil service and consumer state to being a fully industrialized and productive one, in fact becoming a hub for economic growth and development in the South West region and Nigeria”.

“Through this Trade Fair, we have demonstrated our commitment to empowering our local businesses, promoting entrepreneurship, creating jobs and value addition. We have also showcased the rich cultural heritage and diversity of our State and highlighted many opportunities that exist for investment and partnership”.

“As we close this year’s Trade Fair, I want to implore us to work together to develop our local contents as our administration is ready to support local businesses by providing them with the resources and incentives they need to grow and thrive”.

Speaking with the enthusiastic participants during the flag-off, the Commissioner urged them not to take the programme for granted, because it was absolutely free, but they should make use of the opportunity to be self-employed.

While charging them to be committed and punctual, the Commissioner also reiterated the readiness of the State government to support all the serious-minded participants, to excel in any skill area of interest.

According to him, all the needed instructional materials for practical, conducive atmosphere and competent hands have been provided by the Governor, to ensure a hitch-free, robust and result-oriented training programme.

According to him, the government is also in talks with relevant financial institutions and other stakeholders to meet every of the participants at their varying points of need, at their successful completion of the exercise.
