Towards the close of February 2024, the executive Governor of Osun State, Sen. (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has enumerated Osun’s potentials in Cocoa production in the United Kingdom.

The Governor also used the opportunity to urge investors to tap into the potentials of cocoa in the state, saying that his administration is already taking steps in addressing past challenges that stunted the growth of the sector.

The working visit to the British House of Parliament by the Governor’s team was facilitated by the Director, African Desk for Lord JD Waverley, House of Lords, Dr. Ayobami Oyedare (PhD).

Governor’s meeting with Rt. Hon. Lord JD Waverley, a distinguished member of the British House of Lords and Rt. Hon. The mission was to showcase Osun’s Cocoa and investment potentials in anchoring a new economic mentality and prosperity for the people of Osun State.

Addressing a global audience of investors in the Cocoa sector in London, United Kingdom, Governor Adeleke noted that Osun brand of cocoa is highly sought after by end users, providing investors with a guarantee of returns for their investments.

Governor Adeleke, who pointed out that Osun is a major Cocoa belt in Nigeria to underscore opportunities, outlined ongoing efforts by his government to expand the production base and unleash the benefits of the sector for both the State and investors.

“Our cocoa is the traditional species which has the best taste in chocolate and other related products. Our brand is therefore much sought after by end users,” Governor Adeleke remarked.

“Our cocoa sector faces several challenges, several of which include the need to expand the production base, ensure entrance of young farmers, ease access to finance, and deepen the value chain among others”.

“It was in pursuance of the above that I launched the Osun Cocoa Revival Agenda in January this year”.

No doubt, the agenda focuses on assembling stakeholders to design an updated revival implementation plan; get the cocoa industry company in the state running again; put life back into the cocoa farming sub-sector through demonstration of political will; and get more investors into the value chain through ease of doing business.

Others include setting up a domestic export terminal in Osun state to ease the export process and access to the international market; partnering with the Nigerian Railway Corporation for easy transport; upgrading local infrastructures for the farming community; setting up a modified commodity boards to strengthen stakeholders’ finance; develop a partnership with financial institutions to support the cocoa farming community.

The Governor also listed the development of a relationship with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) for agricultural technology and innovations; and the establishment of a strong partnership with the Cocoa Research Institute for partnership and collaboration engagement.

Describing his cocoa plan as very ambitious, Governor Adeleke said his administration’s strategies to resuscitate the State-owned cocoa processing industry at Ede for value chain addition; link the cocoa revival plan with the climate agenda, establish
cottage cocoa factories across the state under an industry cluster agenda among others.

The Governor called on “our business friends in the United Kingdom and Europe as well as North America to partner with us for mutual interest in the cocoa sector. We are widely open to investors who are interested in the value chain of the cocoa sector as well as shareholding in the existing cocoa ventures.

“Your coming to Osun is assured to be very rewarding for many reasons. Our government has enhanced the ease of doing business through an end to multiple taxation facilitation of access to land and simplification of the approval system.

“We are open to supporting government to government, government to business, business to business arrangements. We are a willing partner and my team is here to negotiate deals and partnership”, the Governor assured the cocoa conference.

The Governor’s speech at the launch of Gureje lV luxury chocolate which is byproduct of the cocoa grown in Eti Oni in Osun State was powerful and was applauded.

The Governor’s entourage included the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Hon. Bamikole Omishore.

Doherty celebrates Jenyo at birthday, describes him as politician’s delight

CONGRATS, MY BUDDY JENYO, YOU’RE A POLITICIAN’S DELIGHT, SAYS DOHERTY

Immediate past State Chairman of Lagos PDP, Engr. Adedeji Doherty, has described Reverend Bunmi Jenyo, the Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, as a politician’s delight.

Doherty says that Jenyo as a politician is someone who’s always faithful to a cause and loyal to his friends.

In a birthday message e-signed on his behalf by Mr. Muka Popoola, the head of DD Media Team, Doherty recalls his encounter with Jenyo when they worked together when he was in the dynamic team of Dr. Eddy Olafeso as the Secretary to the South West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Rev. Jenyo turned a year older on Monday, February 26, 2024.

The Convener of Unity Freedom Group (UFG) in the Lagos PDP, said that Jenyo deployed his knowledge and raw skill in the advancement of the South West zone as he interfaced with the state chapters to articulate the vision of the leadership for strengthening of the party in the zone.

He said that Jenyo served as a convenient bridge between the state chapters and the zone’s leadership.

“Working through Jenyo as Secretary created an effective synergy with the zone’s leadership and among state chapters in the zone”, says Doherty.

Doherty said that his impression of Jenyo, whom he called his buddy, was that he’s not the typical everyday politician. According to him, Jenyo’s politics is guided by his christian virtues.

“Jenyo doesn’t conduct his politics and relationship with people like the typical everyday politician that we know in Nigeria. He tries to demonstrate his christian virtues as a Reverend gentleman by being truthful to himself and loyal to his cause”, says Doherty.

Doherty says that it was no surprise that Jenyo became one of the most dependable allies of the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, even from the heady days of fighting for the ticket of the party and working with others in the Adeleke group to win the state for the PDP.Congratulating Jenyo on his birthday anniversary, Doherty prays that God will not let him know a better yesterday in his life as he wishes the commissioner many more blissful years ahead.

GOVERNOR ADELEKE COMMISSIONS CRESCENDO SPORTS LOUNGE IN OSOGBO

…CHARGES YOUTHS TO RISK INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has commissioned Crescendo Sports Lounge in Osogbo, urging the youths to take advantage of the enabling environment of the current administration of Osun State.

He tasked the youths to take investment risks and count their gains, even in the face of economic downturn bedeviling Nigeria.

This assertion was made by the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, who represented the Governor at the commissioning of the investment project at Alekuwodo Osogbo, on Friday 23rd February, 2024.

Crescendo Sports Lounge, a subsidiary of A1 Pinnacle Services Ltd, in partnership with the Osun State Government, is a realization of a dream of the current administration to turn Osun from Civil Service State to an industrialized one.

The Commissioner described the Sports Lounge as a laudable achievement of Governor Adeleke, whose yearning is wooing local and international investors, since his assumption of office, now yielding positive and physical results.

“I make bold to say that, what we are commissioning today is the first of its kind in the entire South West region. The materials, especially, the synthetic grass are of international standard. Its strategic location will no doubt attracts sports lovers within and outside the State. By this project, some of our youths will be gainfully employed and their mental alertness developed through various sporting activities. These will equally boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)”, the Commissioner said.

According to the Commissioner, ” the phase we are commissioning today is just the first phase. As you can see, the phase II, that will house other indoor games will equally be completed and commissioned in no distant future. Mr. Governor, as a lover of Sports, will be on ground to cut the tape”.

He appealed to the “youths and all sport lovers to use the opportunity of this facility to develop their God-given talents. An adage says ‘an idle hand is the devil’s workshop’. Don’t just pay to watch a match, but develop your skills as well”.

“People who can risk investment are the ones to make gain in such an adventure. If there is no risk, there is no gain at the end of the day”, he said.

“I want to laud the efforts of the Chief Executive Officer of A1 Pinnacle, Mr. Tunde Oladimeji, for deeming it fit to contribute his own quota to the development of our dear State. Other interested investors are assured of enabling environment to drive their businesses” Rev. Jenyo stated.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Management team of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Senator Ajagunla Olubiyi Fadeyi Advocates Establishment of National Subsidy Fund

SENATOR AJAGUNLA OLUBIYI FADEYI ADVOCATES ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL SUBSIDY FUND

The Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ajagunnla Olubiyi Fadeyi, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to establish the National Subsidy Fund.

This was obtained from a release signed by  Ajagunla Media Patriots in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Fadeyi also said the move will go a long way in impacting positively on the different facets of human life in the country.

Fadeyi said: “This will help government to introduce subsidy for food, agriculture, transportation, education and other meaningful infrastructural projects that will impact on Nigerians, especially income support scheme for the youths that are out of jobs.”

Speaking on the state of the nation, Fadeyi hailed Tinubu for saving almost N200 billion monthly from the federal allocation.

Fadeyi however called on President Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, convene a national stakeholders forum to proffer lasting solutions to the challenges bedevilling the country.

Fadeyi, while also hailing President Tinubu for providing palliatives to Nigerians, expressed surprise over the non remittance of the reliefs to the beneficiaries.

He noted that the situation in the country has reached a stage where leaders must come together and fix the issues bedevilling the nation. Fadeyi said: “I would say, it’s dire and I can confirm that with all sense of responsibility. As representatives of our people, we are closer to the masses at every level, so we feel the peoples plight much more easily than any other politician. Is it the escalating cost of living or growing insecurity or weakening local currency, which invariably worsens inflation or even the biting impact of removal of fuel subsidy?

“I think the president needs to call for a stakeholders engagement as a matter of urgency, a no-holds-barred, non-political, but frank conversation. A national stakeholder’s engagement of this nature needs to be led by the president himself. Actionable points must be agreed at such a forum to address the most urgent predicaments that face the country at this time.”

Fadeyi also said there was the need to review the way the drivers and managers of the palliatives have been carrying out the projects, even as he lamented why they are not achieving the intended results.

Fadeyi further advocated for tough decisions to be taken to save Nigerians from the worsening economic situation.

“To be honest, very courageous decisions may need to be reached, if we must save our men and women from starvation, businesses from shutting down, and unemployment from worsening.

“For example, if it requires reversing the subsidy removal policy, so be it! Why not reverse it, and fix the corruption along the supply chain instead? If this happens, this will stem inflation.

“We all know that energy cost is the most significant cost incurred by any business, regardless of size. Food costs will be reduced. So, at least, people can eat. The labour unrest will also reduce as the conversation around salary increment would be unnecessary,” Fadeyi stated.

Fadeyi however said that there were no quick fixes to the problems faced by the country, even as he emphasised the need to take decisive actions to address the challenges.

“There are no quick fixes, no doubt. Some of the inconveniences we are going through did not start overnight, it’s been building up, so you can’t expect any quick results, the present leadership is not going to turn to magicians, but we can keep things from escalating at least and then walk backward from there,” Fadeyi opined.
