DUE PROCESS FOLLOWED IN APPOINTING AKADIRI AS NEW AKIRUN – ONIFADE
A prominent traditional Chief in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, High Chief Bamidele Onifade has declared that due process was followed in the appointment of the new Akirun of Ikirun, Oba Olalekan Akadiri.
Chief Onifade who is the Elemo Aga of Ikirun while featuring on a Fresh FM programme on Sunday informed that all traditional rites and processes were followed before the state government announced Oba Akadiri as the new monarch.
The traditional Chief stated that six of the Kingmakers voted for Akadiri to emerge the prefered traditional ruler of the town while one one kingmaker voted for his main contender.
He said the ruling of an Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo presided over by Justice Jide Falola led to the emergence of a candidate from the Obaara ruling house, as it was originally the turn of the Gboleru ruling house to produce Akirun.
He noted that the court directed that the Obaara ruling house should present candidate for the stool of Akirun and same was done by the family after which the Kingmakers voted and Akadiri emerged through majority vote.
Onifade who is also the Oluomo of Ikirun said the necessary traditional rites were done in accordance with the culture of Ikirun.
He appreciated the state government for allowing the wish of the people to see the light of the day through the appointment of Oba Akadiri.
He described the new monarch as a peace loving person who will work hard for the progress and development of the town, calling on all indigenes of the town to support him.
IKIRUN: STAKEHOLDERS HAIL AKADIRI’S EMERGENCE AS NEW AKIRUN Eminent personalities and leaders of thought in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State have lauded the appointment of Oba Olalekan Akadiri as the new Akirun of Ikirun.
The stakeholders in Ikirun among whom are traditional chiefs, honorary Chiefs and prominent business men and women described the selection and subsequent appointment of Oba Akadirias the best thing to have happened to Ikirun.
Osun State government had last week announced the appointment of Oba Akadiri as the new Akirun of Ikirun.
Akadiri who hails from the Oba Ara ruling house succeeds Oba Rauf Olayiwola Adedeji 11 who joined his ancestors last year.
The stakeholders also prayed to God to grant the new monarch the wisdom and knowledge to direct the affairs of the town, just as they called on all the indigenes of the town to rally round the monarch for him to succeed.
Besides, they called on all aggrieved parties to sheath their swords and support the monarch in moving the town forward.
Also, they called on all residents of the town to allow peace reign in the ancient town, even as they enjoined all and sundry to maintain peace in the interest of the town.
2023: AKIRE OF IKIRE-ILE CHARGES JOURNALISTS ON OBJECTIVE REPORTS
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a prominent traditional ruler in Osun State, the Akire of Ikire-Ile, Oba Abdulazees Olatunbosun has charged journalists to be objective and truthful in their professional activities.
The monarch spoke in Osogbo, the state capital on Tuesday at a public lecture organized by the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said “As we approach the 2023 general elections, I enjoin the Nigerian media to remain an impartial and patriotic participant in the activity that would usher in new sets of political leadership in the country.”
His words “The legislature has a unique and crucial role to play in the development of democratic governance through the production of appropriate laws and carry out oversight functions to engender societal progress and make life more meaningful for the people. To do this, the legislature has to remain people centered, progressive minded and God fearing.
“We live at a time in Nigeria where governance requires the support, patience and participation of everyone to succeed. In the glorious Qur’an, the Lord of the universe, Allâh says in part:
“Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancour” (Qur’an 5:2).
“The legislature could be of great help to the executive and the people if members could be more circumspect in their relationship with the executive arm of government.
“For instance, Sir Celestine Ngozichim Omehia was sworn-in as the fourth Governor of Rivers State, on 29th May 2007, but his victory was annulled by the Supreme Court on 25th October, 2007 and Mr Chibuike Amaechi was sworn-in as Governor having been declared to be the legitimate PDP governorship candidate. The decision of the Supreme Court is that Omehia was never a governor and so should not be referred to as a former governor.
“However when Governor Wike came to power in 2015, he felt that Omehia should be recognized as a former governor, and somehow, the House of Assembly went ahead to support this idea to recognize Omehia as a former governor contrary to the Supreme Court ruling.
“The motion was perfected, moved and approved as a result of which Omehia enjoyed all the privileges of the State as a former governor including statutory payments.
“Few days ago however, the Rivers State House of Assembly in her wisdom decided to derecognize Omehia as a former governor because recognizing him as a former governor was contrary to the Supreme Court ruling. So, Governor Nyesom Wike signed to effect the legislative instrument of de-recognizing Omehia as former governor on Friday 7th October, 2022.
“But that did not come until he has been paid N695.5 million as former governor for over seven years. He was then asked to refund the money he was paid in seven years within seven days. This has led to a lot of arguments and counter arguments on a national scale. If the legislature had acted a little more independent, critically and carefully, maybe this scenario would have been completely avoided.
“Having said this, I like to commend the Osun State NUJ for this initiative to provide an annual platform for discussing pertinent issues of progress and development to Nigeria. As we approach the 2023 general elections, I enjoin the Nigerian media to remain an impartial and patriotic participant in the activity that would usher in new sets of political leadership in the country,” he added.
AREE STOOL: KINGMAKERS WARN AGAINST APPOINTMENT OF WARRANT CHIEF
The kingmakers in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State have cautioned the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke against appointment of warrant Chief, saying the appointment will hinder the process of appointing the best traditional ruler for the town.
The kingmakers alleged that the decision of Adeleke to appoint warrant Chief was to favour his preferred candidate for the stool of Aree of Iree.
The Commissioner who also hails from Iree was alleged to be sponsoring a candidate for the stool of Aree of Iree.
The stool became vacant about four years ago after the demise of Oba Jimoh Olayonu and all efforts to appoint a new traditional ruler for the town have yielded no positive result.
The kingmakers who condemned the decision of the commissioner to appoint warrant Chief, vowed to prevent bad precedence as they would reject moves by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to appoint Chief (Mrs) Serifat Adebayo, the Iyalode of Iree land to replace High Chief Jimoh Salami the late Easa of Iree.
It was gathered that the kingmakers were at a meeting to decide on the selection of a new monarch when they received a letter aappointings Serifat Adebayo as one of the Kingmakers.
The kingmakers said such development was alien to the tradition and culture of the town, stressing that the tradition of the town does not allow appointing women to join the kingmakers.
The Aogun Of Iree said it has never been in the history of Iree that a woman will be selected to be among the kingmakers, noting that such will not be entertained in their lifetime.
He said “when they brought the letter from the State government that Iyalode has been appointed to join the kingmakers, we rejected it. Anything that is capable of causing disunity or uproar in Iree over the selection of our monarch will not be allowed.
“If government said they want to force on us another chief to join the kingmakers, they should choose another person not a woman. It has never been in the history of Aree in Council that women are included in the selection of a new monarch. They should not do anything that will tamper with our culture and tradition.
“If government should be allowed to do whatever they wish, and we allowed it, history will not be kind to us after we might have left, because it is our names that people will be mentioning, nobody will talk about those who were in government when it was done.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke, said “The appointment of a warrant chief is the sole responsibility of the government through the Local government authority. Any reputable person in the community can be appointed.
“The chiefs or anybody does not have the right or power to reject anybody appointed by the Govt as warrant chief.
“I believe the local govt is ready to continue with the process but our King makers are to be enlightened as to what the law permit them to do and what they can not do. We have appointed several warrant chiefs through concerned Local govt authority where a kingmaker is dead and that of Iree can’t be an exception.
“We lost the Eesa of Iree sometimes ago and the government has appointed the respected Iyalode of Iree to replace him as king maker,” he said.

My appreciation also goes to the uncommon philanthropist, a true father, lover of mankind and a gift to this generation Dr. Deji Adeleke for his selfless and relentless efforts towards an egalitarian society and better life for the people of Osun State.

While I congratulate every member of the committee, I must quickly acknowledge the fact that the grace of GOD through which this recognition has been obtained, must not be taken for or with levity hand in the delivery of the best and quality presentations that is expected of us.
For me, the Chairmanship of this epoch-making team is never a function of being the best of all or most qualified, it is however, simply a call to serve. So I implore every member of this committee and sub-committees to see this great task from that direction. It is neither an opportunity for egoism, but an avenue to contribute ones quota to make things better, acceptable, laudable and glorious.
It is on that premise that I applaud the dexterity and integrity of all party leaders and members, who worked assiduously to be at where we are at this point. Your loyalty, and dugged commitment can not be taken with levity hand.
It is a season of continued joy. We therefore need to congratulate one another and swing into action immediately to deliver the best ,on the assignment given us. OSCOTECH, ESA-OKE, OSPOLY, IREE; TALE OF TWIN HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE AND THE GOVERNMENT’S NON-CHALANCE

Education, they say, is the bedrock of development in any nation. A country that plays with quality education has lost it national treasure. It is the pathway to future of hope and glory, no doubt.
Having propagated education and entrenched its importance through public advocacy and environmental ambience that could make offering it a constant comfortability for effective learning, goes with it is acceptability of purpose and financial convenience to guarantee a successful academic end for a student.
Also, a very expensive education is like dangling a carrot before the rabbit. It worsens the process and whittles down the potentials for authentic creativity so much that financially agonized student portends to inhibit his natural art and forges forward to obtain the ultimate goalthe certificateby all means necessary. That is systemic decimation of ideas and ideals.
It is also important to express that the classroom alone cannot prepare the student for academic attainments in life. As a matter of fact, it is settled in reality that quality teachers with proper motivation and secured employment and who are undoubtedly equipped with the appropriate academic materials are the antidote to a decaying academic platform. They is the elixir to kill the poisoning in an academic process.
Osun State Polytechnic, Iree and her sister, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke are the high-ground tertiary institutions of the state which have made many top shots in the country and around the world. The alumnus can be counted in thousands and they are making waves in their different chosen careers. Kudos to the ideas that berthed the institutions because they did not only impacted knowledge. They also made education affordable and competitive for promotion of quality and determination for success in life.
As it is today, it is sad and ‘de-patronizing’ to see these alma maters descending to become condescending in their superior ideas and ideals that put them at par with some universities within their catchments and set them apart from their contemporaries in the country. Having properly interrogated the varied infirmities suffered by these citadels, the answer came clear that the schools are controlled out of ideas and value. To relocate these colleges back to their glorious days, it is important for the stakeholders both in the public and private lives to orbit round these precarious and unsatisfactory developments because the colleges are sailing towards ominous waves that would devalue and deflate their status and stature among their peers.
It is an established fact that the academic staff that are charged with the responsibility of inculcating ideals in the students and at the same time, pack and impact them with knowledge for value in the future have descended to an extreme decadence by trading value and knowledge for money. The better part of students academic journey to fruition is the research, writing and defence of his thesis. This process has turned out to be juicy market for the teachers who are supposed to be the eye behind the back of the school authority and the parents. At the dire peak of this project exercise, they violate, exploit and extort these students with humongous sum of money. It is called free passage obligation. They charge as high as fifty thousand naira before they let go of a student. This not only kills the standard, it does relegate these schools to nothing. They lose their glory and value and painfully, turn out half-baked, unproductive valueless labour. It is a total loss to the government, the school, the society and mostly, the parents. That is just one part of the whole show of disbelief that has crept its way into the fabrics of these two institutions system.
It will not amount to genuine criticism for proper rehabilitation if the registries of these schools are exempted in this attempt to examine the diverse maladies confronted by these polytechnics. The members of staff of the Exams and Records have become the untouchable to the tune that one assumes that their corruptive indices are permanently incurable. They act with impunity in such a manner that one would not find it nauseating to mildly submit that the upper authorities gave them the green card to lord over their responsibility by asking for gratification as precondition to work. Old students can recall sore experiences in the process of requesting for their transcripts and certificates or recommendation letters directed to the registry.
The latest version of the corruption in this department is sickening. Request for the collection of transcript or a recommendation letter has been so marketwise, particularly at OSCOTECH, that they hardly have fuel in their generating set to type. They do not request for money stylishly. They are so emboldened that they ask you face to face to pay. There is nobody to deter them because one finds it hard to argue if the oga at the top was not even aware of the trending lucrative business. To crown the pass for this standard-degrading ineptitude, they demand that the old students who want to collect their certificates should pay for the departmental and faculty dues. It is beastly annoying and irreducibly defamatory to propose such demand by any department of any school to an alumnus. This is unobtainable in other colleges in the surrounding state. How could someone who has graduated for long and who, as a matter of fact, paid all those fees while in school be asked to pay for the stuffs again? Is he still a student of the school? It is morally imperative to bring down this hoisted flag of corruptive terms.
Lastly, the schools were previously known to have ethics and ethos to promote unarguable standards and spread sense of belonging among their working populace, both academic and nonacademic. In an attempt to bridge staff strength gap created by an irresponsive government some 12 years ago, some members of staff were recruited by the schools authorities on non-permanent basis, hoping that when the government gives signal for recruitment, they would be permanently converted. These are members of staff who perform the tedious duty of students accreditation. They have been employed for more than ten years with the stagnant payment of thirty to forty thousand naira from the schools’ IGR when in the clear cut of scheme of things; the cost of living has gone quadruple. They have no privileges like their counterparts who share the same degree certificates with them. This is a vile and decapitating arrangement that has reduced the dedicated staff citizens to slavish condition. For all those years that they have been wholeheartedly and faithfully serving the schools, scores of new members of staff have been employed on permanent basis while those within and of course, who are to be converted to full fledge members of staff with the same requisites and pay-rolled by the state government are left to their fate in the winds.
Looking into this identikit that fits the two colleges by this outgoing government and creating a lifetime opportunity for this category of workers in these schools in alliance with their respective governing councils will amount to serving God and embracing fairness because it is said that what is good for the goose should not be bad for the gander. The concerned bodies should travel on this strength to give these people a destination. The dimming sun is still enough to dry the cloth.
GOODNIGHT TO A LEADER PER EXCELLENCE, CHIEF BAYO AJEIGBE
A former Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rev. Bunmi Jenyo has described the death of Chief Bayo Ajeigbe (Baba Gomina) as a sudden and shocking end of an era in the history of the party in Osun State.
Chief Ajeigbe’s death was announced on Sunday afternoon in less than a day he attended a social function in Ila-Orangun on Saturday, without any sign of illness or weakness.
According to the Ila-Orangun born politician, Rev. Jenyo who x-rayed the leadership qualities and giant strides of the deceased, maintained that his immediate family, the PDP, Osun State and humanity in general will miss the great leader, who dedicated his own life to a selfless service to mankind.
Rev. Jenyo however took solace GOD for a life well-spent, commitment, dexterity and integrity of the deceased which he said would open the gates of Paradise for him at the resurrection day.
“What a shocking and sudden demise of a great leader, elder and father in the Osun PDP. His contribution towards the electoral victory of the Governor-elect, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, progress of Osun State and development of humanity cannot be underestimated” Rev. Jenyo said.
According to him “Our consolation however is in the fact that Baba Gomina lived well and fulfilled, being an exemplary, consistent, dogged and passionate leader and father to all. We will surely and sorely miss him. Adieu, Chief Ajeigbe”.
He prayed for the repose of his soul “may GOD rest his soul until the resurrection morning when we all shall meet to part no more, AMEN “.
HON OLUWOLE OKE MOURNS CHIEF BAYO AJEIGBE , CHIEFTAIN OF OSUN PDP , SAYS HE WAS AN EXEMPLARY PARTY LEADER
The lawmaker representing Ijesa North Federal Constituency in the 9th Assembly, Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke has described Chief Adebayo Ajeigbe as an exemplary political leader whose fatherly role will create a great vacuum in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Hon. Oke said “his death was a rude shock and least expected, especially when his wealth of experience, knowledge and wisdom were most needed.
“The gentleman was a guest at the 40th day Fidau prayer for the former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun in Ila on Saturday, full of life, cheerful and animated.
“I lack words to express my grief over the passing to glory of one of our Party Chieftains, Chief Bayo Ajeigbe popularly known as Baba Gomina.”
In his statement at his Abuja residence, Hon. Oke described Baba Ajeigbe as a committed party man, an elder statesman whose exemplary leadership style has touched many lives without leaving a space for doubt in our hearts. “He was a man of peace, he would always preach peace and find a way of settling rifts and rancour. A dogged apostle of truth, love and unity, deep in culture and traditions of Yoruba. He was endowed with uncommon wisdom and knowledge which he used to mentor the who cast their political tutelage under his political school. He will forever be remembered for being a bridge builder, a solution provider and a dogged fighter.
“Indeed, there is no doubt PDP Family has lost one of its committed leaders to the cold hands of death.”
Hon. Oke took solace in God for the life well spent by the Ororuwo, Boripe born High Chief, saying “his imperishable foot prints and legacies would remain indelible in the annals of political history in Osun. He prayed that God would give his family and the state Peoples Democratic Party the fortitude to bear the loss.
ATIBA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS HOLDS HEALTH CAMPAIGN ON HIV/AIDS IN OYO.
The students of Atiba University Oyo, Nigeria Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Public Health on Thursday stormed host community with a massive campaign on malaria, HIV/AIDS prevention and medical check-up.
In his welcome address, the founder of the school, Dr. James Adesokan Ojebode who expressed satisfaction, charged the students to know what health entails and their roles to the community.
Also, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the school, Prof. Olawale Okeniyi advised the students to remain determined and focused in their lines of duty.
During the exercise, the Director of Consultancy Unit, Atiba University, Prof. Babalola maintained that almost forty years ago when the first case of HIV was reported, marked the beginning of a devastating global pandemic.
According to him, the disease has killed 39 million people and caused untold pain, stigma and discrimination among the people.
The students of Atiba University, moved round Oyo town from one street to the other, offering services to the populace.
The people of the community were also invited to the school premises for the HIV test, and advice was given to them on the need to abstain from multiple sex partners and that people should know their HIV status.
The coordinator of the programme, Mr Adeleke Morenikeji said both viruses always target the weak in our society, preying on vulnerable groups and amplifying inequalities.
He also said that global solidarity and innovation were key to overcoming the worst of the HIV pandemic.
Similarly, collaboration and science offer the best path out of the current crisis. And both have a profound impact on mental health around the world.
ACTION ALLIANCE DISSOCIATES SELF FROM CUPP’S ALLEGATIONS AGAINST INEC, APC
The Action Alliance (AA) has dissociated itself from the allegation made against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) that INEC has perfected plans to rig the 2023 general election in favour of the APC.
The CUPP had at a press conference raised the alarm that INEC and APC are making moves to rig the election.
At the press conference, one Kenneth Udeze represented the AA.
But in its reaction, the party described Udeze as a frustrated politician who is seeking for relevance, having being expelled from the party.
The National chairman of the party, Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje in a statement issued on Thursday said the AA has nothing against INEC as erroneously claimed by the CUPP, saying that the leadership of the party has its ways of addressing sundry issues bothering on fundamental issues.
Omoaje said Udeze and his co-travellers are on their own and have no right to represent the party at any level, having being expelled from the party long time ago.
He said ‘I Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje is the only authentic and recognized national chairman of the Action Alliance and by virtue of that, I am to represent the party at any level on any issue that affect the party.
“Kenneth Udeze who represented the AA at the so called Press conference is not known to the party. He’s not our member and so, he has no moral justification to represent the party or speak on behalf of the AA. He was expelled many years ago and his expulsion still subsists till date. He’s therefore an impersonator,” he added.
The AA national Chairman maintained that the party is an organized one that gives preference to due process in all its activities.
He reaffirmed the confidence of the party in the Prof. Mahmud Yakub led INEC, stating that “we have our matured way of addressing issues if we have any with INEC. We have channels through which we make our grievances known to INEC as well.”
