Crisis looms in FMC Abeokuta over alleged age falsification by Medical Director, Prof. Olomu

CRISIS BREWS IN FMC ABEOKUTA OVER ALLEGED FALSIFICATION OF AGE BY MEDICAL DIRECTOR

A serious industrial crisis now brew at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State following the alleged falsification of age by the outgoing Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Adewale Musa Olomu.

Olomu who is seeking a second term was alleged to have falsified his age while seeking appointment as the Medical Director of the hospital.

Already, a group of concerned staff of the hospital under the aegis of The Concerned Staff have petitioned the Minister of Health on the alleged age falsification by Prof Olomu.

Documents made available to our correspondent showed that Olomu presented two sworn declaration of age at different times to the board and management of the hospital.

In one of the documents, Olomu claimed he was born in January 1960, while in the other one he claimed he was born in January 1964.

It was learnt that Olomu allegedly presented the 1964 sworn declaration of age to the board and management of the hospital while seeking a second term in office, having realized that by the 1960 age declaration he had earlier presented, he was above 60 years of age and may not be eligible to hold the office for the second term.

In the petition written by the concerned staff, copy of which was made available to our correspondent, the aggrieved staff threatened to engage in legal action against the Medical Director if the government fails in it’s bid to stop him from running a second term in office.

The staff in the petition signed by Abdulahi Abiodun entitled “Falsification of age by Prof. Adewale Musa Olomu” alleged that Olomu falsified his age on two different government employment documents.

The petition reads “while we have sufficient documents to support this allegation, the claim by the Medical Director to have cut away four years from his age is not only mischievous and fruadulent but also criminal.

“He has by his action criminally violated the public service regulations and government circulars by presenting himself for second term in office when he has actually turned 61 years of age by 6th of January, 2021.

“This is not tenable in any institution like Federal Medical Centre and similar Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We have directed our lawyers to file the documents with appropriate institutional and legal authorities,” it added.

Efforts to speak with Prof. Olomu on the development proved abortive.

Don’t have any dealing with Kenneth Udeze, Action Alliance warns politicians

DON’T HAVE ANY DEALING WITH KENNETH UDEZE, ACTION ALLIANCE WARNS POLITICIANS

National chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje has warned members of the public not to be decieved by the antics of some disgruntled elements impersonating as leaders of the party in order to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Specifically, the AA national chairman cautioned the people, especially politicians against relating with Mr Kenneth Udeze who he said he’s currently under expulsion for allegations bothering on fraud and anti party activities.

Omoaje said Udeze who is still impersonating as the National chairman of the party has been expelled along side James Vernibe and othera and therefore warned members of the public not to have any dealing with them.

He alleged that Udeze and his co-travellers have not stopped decieving unsuspecting politicians, especially those seeking political offices and also defrauding them.

He declared that Udeze and Vernibe are still under expulsion and have no moral or legal right to represent the party in any capacity.

Also, Omoaje raised the alarm over alleged fraud recently perpetrated by Udeze when he teased a politician to obtain the AA’s governorship nomination form in Anambra State.

He alleged that Udeze defrauded one Nnamdi Nwawuo who is a governorship aspirant of the party in Anambra State to the tune of millions.

He therefore called on security agencies to curb the excesses of Udeze and his cohorts, just as he warned members of the party to steer clear of the Udeze who he described as a drowning politician who is hell-bent at polarizing the AA.

The AA national chairman also called on intending contestants in Anambra and other states to deal with only authentic members of the AA and also seek clarification on the authentic leadership of the party from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Besides, he condemned the illegal office recently opened by Udeze in Abakaliki, headquarters of Ebonyi State, saying it was a ploy to further decieve unsuspecting members of the public, especially the people of the state

World Press Freedom Day : Osun NUJ demands decent wage for media professionals

WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY: OSUN NUJ DEMANDS DECENT WAGE FOR MEDIA PROFESSIONALS.

As the world marks world press freedom day, government has been urged to create enabling environment for media professionals to practice their trades.

In a statement by the chairman of Nigeria Union of journalists, Osun State Council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu and secretary, Bukola Elufadeju said media professionals deserved a decent life through a special wage, owing to their roles in nation building.

The statement decried the attitude of some media owners to the welfare of their staffs especially non-payment of salaries and other benefits to media professionals while some are paying ridiculous amount to their workers.

It posited that media professionals are playing important roles in the entrenchment of democracy and its sustainability aside from being the key actors in the struggle for democratic system in the country, hence the need for their special treatment in the country.

It hinted that many journalists had been killed while other risked their lives daily in the task of sustaining the unity of the nation and project the country for national growth and development.

The statement noted that the theme of this year celebration “information as a public good” attested to the significance of information to human existence, survival and its place in promotion of public good as well as good governance.

It explained that the theme also, underlines the indisputable importance of verified and reliable information as it calls attention to the essential role of free and professional journalists in producing and disseminating information by tackling misinformation and other harmful content.

The statement called on public officers to always give media professionals access to information saying despite the freedom of information act, some public officers are still treating some information as classified and confidential.

It maintained that media as the fourth estate of the realm must be seen as formidable partner in the task of nation building.

World Press Freedom Day, which was declared by general Assembly of the united nation in 1993, provides an avenue to pay tribute to media professionals who risked or lost their lives in the line of duty.
