Governor Adeleke bags “Akoni Oodua” education award

GOVERNOR ADELEKE BAGS “AKONI OODUA” EDUCATION AWARD

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and his two Commissioners, both in the ministries of Commerce and Industry as well as Education, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo and Hon. Dipo Eluwole are among exceptional dignitaries who were honoured by the Oodua Heritage Leadership International Platform on Friday, 13th June, 2025.

In a public lecture and award programme held at the African Centre for Excellence, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, the Governor received the Education Governor of the year, Hon. Dipo Eluwole bagged Oodua Heritage Education Merit award while Rev. Jenyo was decorated as the life-Patron of the organization and honoured as the Oodua Education Commissioner for Commerce and Industry of the year.

Represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Monitoring, Hon. Ajetunmobi Akinwale Oyewale, the Governor stressed that “we have embarked on a robust reform agenda in education, rehabilitating schools across the State, equipping classrooms with modern learning tools, investing in digital literacy, vocational training and teacher empowerment”.

According to Governor Adeleke, “We are not building an education system that produces job seekers alone but the one that produces thinkers, creators and builders. As we promote local content, we are also saying: let our pupils learn about Cocoa as much as they learn about coding. Let them appreciate our fabrics as much as they admire foreign fashion. Let them be grounded in Yoruba ethics as much as they are fluent in English grammar”.

Delivering the lecture on the topic “Local Content in Education: A new normal in Nigeria’s educational development” by Professor Alaba Adeyemi Adediwura who noted with dismay the neglect of the local content in the educational sector of Nigeria and Africa.

According to Professor Adediwura, “education is a powerful vehicle for National development, social integration and cultural preservation. In Nigeria as in many post-colonial societies, the structure and content of the educational system have historically reflected colonial legacies, with a strong emphasis on foreign curricular, languages and values”.

“This has often resulted in a disconnection between what students learn in school and the realities of their immediate environments, cultures and economics. In recent years however, there has been a shift in the paradigm toward integrating local content in education, a move that aligns the curriculum more closely with indigenous knowledge systems, local languages, cultural heritage and community needs”, he said.

Rev. Jenyo, who was decorated in due recognition of his innovation, visionary and selfless contributions to the development of education and the propagation of Yoruba cultural heritage, dedicated the award to Governor Adeleke and the good people of Osun State.

According to him, “this award is dedicated to the peoples Governor, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke who has been performing well in governance to the admiration of all Osun State indegenes. The Governor who is using local content in infrastructural transformation, education, health and agriculture, thereby boosting the economy with verifiable results”.

“I also dedicate this great honour to the good people of Osun State for their unalloyed support for the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke”, Rev. Jenyo said.

They tried, but God passed them all – Governor Adeleke speaks on challenges and triumphs

THEY TRIED, BUT GOD PASSED THEM ALL – GOVERNOR ADELEKE SPEAKS ON CHALLENGES AND TRIUMPHS

My dear people of Osun State,

They tried all they could to stop me from delivering the true dividends of democracy to you. They deployed every tactic—lies, distractions, even withholding the statutory funds meant for your development—all in a bid to derail the good work we started together.

But they forgot one thing: I serve a living God who never fails. Despite their efforts, God showed His power. Every plan they made against our progress failed, because when you’re on the side of the people and backed by divine grace, no obstacle can stand in your way.

They called me names. They said I was just a dancer and not educated. But today, by the special grace of God, those same people are witnesses to the transformation happening across Osun State—from infrastructure to education, health, and beyond.

I’m deeply grateful to my family for their unwavering support, and to the good people of Osun for standing firm with me. Your love and belief in our vision give me strength every single day.

As your Governor, I remain committed to fulfilling every promise I made. I pray that the Almighty continues to guide me as I work to turn our collective dreams into reality.

Imọlẹ ti de, and by the grace of God, the light will continue to shine.

– Senator (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke
Executive Governor, Osun State.
