OSUN TRIBUNAL: ACTION ALLIANCE TO PURSUE ALL ITS CASES TO LOGICAL END, PARTY INSISTS

The Action Alliance (AA) has declared that it will pursue all its cases before the National Assembly and State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Osun State to a logical end.

The party is already challenging the State House of Assembly election in 22 out of the 26 constituencies in the state.

Also, the party is challenging the National Assembly election which produced the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in all the three senatorial districts and nine federal constituencies.

The party had in his submissions before the tribunal expressed displeasure over its non participation in both the National Assembly and State House of Assembly Elections held early this year.

Candidates of the PDP had won all the three senatorial districts and nine federal constituencies, while it won in 25 constituencies and All Progressives Congress (APC) won a seat in the House of Assembly.

Already, the Tribunal had accepted the application of the AA to change its counsel in some of the matters instituted before it.

Reacting to the development, the national chairman of the party, Dr Adekunle Rufai Omoaje said the party would pursue all the cases before the tribunal to a logical conclusion.

He said the party will not relent until justice is done to all the matters it instituted before the tribunal.

Forgery: Kenneth Udeze, Vernimbe, Ogunmodede docked in Osun

FORGERY: KENNETH UDEZE, VERNIMBE, OGUNMODEDE DOCKED IN OSUN

An erstwhile member of the Action Alliance (AA), Mr Kenneth Udeze was on Wednesday arraigned before an Osun State Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital.

Udeze was arraigned alongside Messrs James Vernimbe James and Adeloye Ogunmodede.

The trio were standing trial for alleged forgery and conspiracy.

The suspects were alleged to have substituted the name of Adekunle Rufai Omoaje who emerged as the governorship candidate of the party in the state in 2018.

The court had earlier ordered the three accused persons to be remanded in Ilesa correctional facility.

At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Police were cross examined.

During cross examination, Mr Gbenga Omosebi, a police inspector told the court that he investigated the matter from the Zone 11 command of the Nigeria Police Force.

Also, representative of INEC noted that the governorship primary election of the AA held in 2018 at Fun Field events centre was duly monitored by INEC contrary to claim that the party did not hold governorship primary election.

The presiding Magistrate adjourned the matter to 21st September, 2023 for further hearing.

Osun Election: Tribunal okays Action Alliance petitions, approves change of counsel

OSUN ELECTION: TRIBUNAL OKAYS ACTION ALLIANCE PETITIONS, APPROVES CHANGE OF COUNSEL

Osun State Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo, the state capital has ruled that the Action Alliance (AA) should continue with its petition against the state House of Assembly election held in the state.

The tribunal also declared that the party has the right to change its counsel as the law allows petitioners to change their counsels as they may deem fit.

The Action Alliance had challenged the results of the last House of Assembly election held in 22 out of the 26 constituencies in the state.

Also, the party is challenging the results of the National Assembly election in all the three senatorial districts and the nine federal constituencies.

At the sitting of the Tribunal yesterday, the AA expressed its willingness to change its counsel to Onyinye Nweze.

The party had initially engaged the services of Mr Muhydeen Adeoye for its petitions, but later terminated his engagement.

Adeoye who was represented by Kafayat Sanusi at the Tribunal alleged that the law firm of Adeoye paid the security cost but this was challenged by the national chairman of the party, Dr Adekunle Rufai Omoaje who was also present in court.

Omoaje had told the tribunal that his party engaged the services of Kunle Adegoke SAN and no other person, adding that the transfer of the legal services was not known to him.

Omoaje told the tribunal that the party prefers the services of Nweze and this was upheld by the three members tribunal.

The tribunal adjourned to August 15 for hearing.

Osun: Why Odo-Otin Local Govt deserves speakership position

OSUN: WHY ODO-OTIN LOCAL GOVT DESERVES SPEAKERSHIP POSITION

A pro democracy group in Osun State, The Third Force has stressed the need for the zoning of the speakership position in the next Assembly.

The group made up of pro democracy activists urged the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to zone the speakership position to Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency of Osun central senatorial district.

Specifically, the group noted that Odo-Otin Local Government deserves the position of the Speaker as it is the only local government without any vital political office in the federal constituency.

The convener of the group, Comrade Femi Babalola noted that Ifelodun Local Government has already produced a member of the House of Representatives while the state House of Assembly member elect from Boripe is not a member of the PDP.

He stressed the need for leaders of the PDP to microzone the speakership position to Odo -Otin Local Government in the spirit of fairness and justice.

The group exonerated the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke from alleged favourism in who becomes the next speaker of the state House of Assembly.

He said “May we boldly say that we embark on a very good investigative research and we find out that the executive Governor is loyal to all the House of Assembly members elect without isolating anyone.

“The Party and the Stakeholders in the party will ultimately decide and micro-zone where they want the pendulum to swing. It’s not the governor or anyone, the onus of responsibility of deciding where to go lies on the party.

“In every community there are elders. In every association, be it political, social, commercial and even religion there are leaders. One of the principal functions of the leaders is to see to the welfare of the group and also to take critical stands and decisions where necessary. A case in point of the office of the Speaker.

“An individual that’s capable, energetic, intelligent and highly cerebral. An epitome of honesty, academically sound, trustworthy not feebleminded. The legislative arm of govt has enormous task ahead of it. A very loyal individual, someone who has been part of struggle, an individual who work assiduously with the present government is therefore needed.

“May we quickly say that from the information gathered, the position of the Speaker has been zoned to Ifelodun Boripe and Odo-Otin federal Constituency.

“This is understandable. Olorunda/Osogbo/Irepodun federal constituency has been given the slot of the Secretary to the State Government while Ila/Boluwaduro/Ifedayo federal constituency has a Senator.

“Let those who sponsors campaign of calumny, character assassination of the Governor be wary of that. The party is yet to decide who gets what. Why crying fouls, why anticipating failure? he added.
