A former National Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Mr Kenneth Udeze and two other expelled members of the party; Ogunmodede Oluwagbemi and James Vernibe were on Friday rearraigned before an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital.

While Ogunmodede was the former chairman of the party in Osun State, Vernibe was until his expulsion from the party, the National Secretary.

However, the trio of Udeze, Ogunmodede and Vernibe who had earlier been remanded at the Ilesa correctional centre for alleged fraud and forgery appeared in court on Friday.

The three of them were standing trial for alleged conspiracy, fraud and forgery.

Udeze was in 2020 arrested by operatives of Zone 11 of the Nigerian Police Force, with headquarters in Osogbo and subsequently charged to court.

The former AA national chairman was alleged to have replaced the name of the duly elected governorship candidate of the party in Osun State with another person during the 2018 governorship election held in the state.

According to the charge sheet read in court, Udeze and other defendants had in July 2018 conspired to commit felony and fraud, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the criminal code, laws of Osun State.

Appearing before the court on Friday, Udeze had through his counsel, Mr W.O Wemimo challenged the jurisdiction of the court.

However, the Prosecution counsel, Mr J.O Famuyini objected the application, saying that the defendants had already approached the state High Court seeking for an order to quash the charges preferred against them.

He said challenging the jurisdiction of the court by the defendants would amount to an abuse of court process.

He urged the court to disregard the application and allow the case to be heard as the case had suffered several adjournment

Ruling on the application, Magistrate Bola Ajanaku who presided over the court threw out the application.

The trial Magistrate thereafter adjourned the case to 26th November, 2021 for hearing.

2021 World Teachers’ Day: Osun Teachers hail Oyetola’s passion for educational transformation

2021 WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY: OSUN TEACHERS HAIL OYETOLA’S PASSION FOR EDUCATIONAL TRANSFORMATION

… REVERSAL OF SINGLE UNIFORM APPROPRIATE, IN TANDEM WITH PEOPLE’S YEARNINGS, SAYS FORMER NLC CHAIRMAN, OLALERE

As teachers across the globe commemorate the Year 2021 World Teachers’ Day, the teachers in Osun have passed vote of confidence in the Administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for taking their welfare and well-being as topmost priority.

The teachers gave the commendation on Tuesday, during the celebration of the year 2021 World Teachers’ Day organised by the State Wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), at Osogbo City Stadium.

The obviously enthusiastic teachers hailed government’s passion for educational transformation as reflected in its avowed commitment to the provision of quality, qualitative and functional education across levels.

This is even as the immediate past State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Adesiyan Saka Olalere, cleared the air that the reversal of the single uniform by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola was not in any way aimed at neither rubbishing anyone nor the education reforms executed by the immediate past Administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Olalere noted that the reversal was a quick response to the yearnings and agitations of the masses, particularly parents and old students of the affected schools who had openly clamoured for immediate reversal of the names of their schools to the original nomenclature and the single uniform regime.

Speaking on behalf of the teachers in the State, the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Comrade Kabir Adekunle Adekomi, lauded Governor Oyetola for making it up to workers, particularly teachers, by inspiring a sense of belonging, hope and dignity among them.

He appreciated government’s efforts at giving teachers adequate training, empowerment and motivation, and providing them with necessary infrastructure, instructional materials, remunerations, career progression and incentives to meet the challenges and demands of the recovery agenda.

He said: “We are solidly behind your Administration for the good works you have been doing, most especially your continued and prompt payment of full monthly salaries; implementation of thirty thousand naira (#30,000.00) minimum wage; monetization of promotions letter previously earned; subsequent movement of workers out of stagnation of many years and re-introduction of annual salary increment for teachers.

“Other welfare efforts of government include re-engineering of the existing education policy; formulation of new strategic policy initiatives such as restoration of nomenclatures and reversal from 4- 5-3 to 6-3-3-4 system in tandem with the National Policy on Education; return of schools to their previous status so as reflect the age-old tradition of schools in the State; abolishment of Single Uniform Policy; and establishment of Osun State Schools Management Commission.

“Other initiatives still included renovation and revitalization of office of ZIES/LIES for effective monitoring; purchase of six (6) operational Hilux Vehicle for ZIES/LIES; purchase of furniture for learners and teachers; renovation of schools across the State; distribution of Instructional Materials to Public Schools across the State; and distribution of Covid -19 preventive materials to students and teachers in public schools among numerous others.”

In his remarks, the immediate past State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Adesiyan Saka Olalere, said the return of schools to their previous status, restoration of school nomenclatures as well as the scrap of single uniform policy by the Oyetola-led government was in order and not a motive to disparage the good policies of his predecessor.

He said: “To us, the reversal of the names of the public schools across the state among other education reforms by the Oyetola-led Administration was not to rubbish anyone or disparage the works of the immediate past Administration but rather, a swift response to people’s yearnings.

“So, as far as the school nomenclature is concerned, it is not true that the present Adminstration is trying to change the narrative. When there is an agitation in the society for the change of a particular policy of government, it is the responsibility of the government to heed to the people’s demands, hence the swift response.

“What we have seen is that government has shown that it has listening ears, as against the insinuations that the initiative was aimed at rubbishing the immediate past regime. Look at the schools built by the former Governor Rauf Aregbesola; the schools are still there and are being maintained by the present Administration. That is a sign of continuity.

“We all knew the side effects of single uniform. Some schools were almost closed down as a result of the unruly behaviour of some students who were as at then difficult to identify due to the single school uniform.

“It is unfortunate that this issue has been politicised. We all knew that the issue of single uniform created a lot of crisis. The State Government was sued by some old students challenging the change of the names of their schools.”

On the performance of the Administration so far, particularly in the education sector, Comrade Olalere said, “Governor Oyetola is doing excellently well and his Administration is trying as seen in the support he has been giving to advance the education sector and ensure the welfare and well-being of teachers in the State.”

In his remarks, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola said teachers remain the heroes and heroines of the New Normal occasioned by the adverse effects of the global Coronavirus pandemic that has been ravaging the world.

He said his Administration would continue to hold the teachers in high esteem and prioritise their welfare and well-being as professionals that kept hope alive for a better tomorrow for all professions.

The Governor urged them to keep on enforcing Covid-19 safety protocols for effective teaching and learning. He urged teachers to continue to be the first-line channels for sensitising people and implementing the message of observance of Covid-19 protocols for safety in the face of waves of the deadly pandemic ravaging the nation.

Oyetola who described teachers as indispensable companions to socioeconomic and infrastructure development of any society, said the Administration would do everything possible to refine the education sector through the provision of quality, qualitative and functional education across levels.

The Governor also disclosed that all the General Hospitals across the State would be rehabilitated, just as he hinted that government would embark on massive construction of more roads in 2022.

“In line with our Administration’s commitment to ensuring that there are no abandoned projects in the State, all existing on-going road projects are being worked upon and will be delivered soon. Notable among these Roads are the 17.5km Oba (Sir) Adesoji Aderemi (East by pass) Road; 30km Gbongan – Akoda Road; 40km – Osogbo – Ikirun – Ilaodo – Kwara State boundary Road which are on-going, as well as the complete rehabilitation of 30km Ilesa – Iperindo – Ipetu Ijesa Road. This Administration has also embarked on massive construction and rehabilitation of roads across the State. While some are completed, others are on-going. Notable among these are the construction of 18.1km Osogbo – Kelebe – Iragbiji Road (including Orita Idiodan – Araromi – Anaye Mkt.); Rehabilitation of 25.8km Ede (Army Barrack) – Ara – Ejigbo Township Road; Construction of 0.68km Flyover at Olaiya, Osogbo; Rehabilitation of 1.3km Kuta Palace junction – Isale Oba Road – Asamu Junction Road; Rehabilitation of 2.3km Iloro – Aganun – Division C Police Headquarter, Ile-Ife; Reconstruction and completion of 8.1km Moro-Yakoyo-Ipetumodu-Asipa Road; Rehabilitation of 2.6km Nike Gallery – Ido – Osun Township airport with palace spur; Rehabilitation of 2.5km Ikirun – Eko-Ende Road; as well as the construction of 0.31km access road to Fountain University, Osogbo which are on-going.

“In a matter of days, work will commence on Lawyer Atanda Road in Iwo. For network of roads in Ikire and Ife, they are undergoing procurement process, while work has commenced on the Ila-Arandun-Kwara Boundary Road, to mention but a few. All these are designed to aid ease of doing business, facilitate easy and smooth movement of citizens and help in the transportation of farm produce to urban markets. I want assure the people of Osun that more notable road projects would be awarded as part of Government’s efforts to improve the socio-economic activities of the residents of the State. This is also in furtherance of the present Administration’s goal to deliver adequate, quality and equitable services to the good people of Osun.

He further said “We have laid important foundations for the development of our State’s economy over the past three (3) years with various developments in infrastructure, security, environment and major improvements in the Ease of Doing Business and growing our Internally Generated Revenue.

“We must now focus on gearing up the momentum of building on the achievements so far, and by so doing, delivering accelerated economic growth and development for all.

“As a state, our vision of the future is clear. Our goal is to achieve inclusive socio-economic growth that is rooted in our 10-Year Osun Development Plan (2019-2028). Our plan rests on four developmental pillars: Economic Development, Infrastructure Development, Human Capital Development and Security, and Environmental Sustainability.

“To achieve this, we commit ourselves to deepening the foundation for revenue diversification and economic sustainability by focusing on Agriculture, Mining, ICT and Innovation, Culture and Tourism and Creative economy without neglecting other important sectors like Infrastructure, Water and Sanitation, Commerce and Industry, Education and Health.

“In a broader view therefore, the central focus of our Administration is to make Osun a prosperous State in a secure and sustainable environment through pragmatic, transparent, accountable and inclusive governance.”

On Tourism, he said “another innovation of our administration is the conscious use of arts and culture to re-energise our state economy. In line with this, the State government had announced the wearing of ‘Adire Osun’, especially by Cabinet members and other political functionaries in the State on Thursday of every week. The idea is to stimulate interest in the promotion of our culture, encourage others to embrace the idea so as to boost our local economy in the long run. Enumeration of local producers of ‘Adire Osun’ is ongoing. Our intention is to link producers with finance to boost production so as to match expected surge in demand as a result of this policy pronouncement. This will be aided with the Government intervention to open ‘Adire Osun’International Market in the nearest future.

“We have not relented in the promotion of our cultural activities in the State. Osun Osogbo festival, Iwude Ijesa, Olojo festival Ile-Ife, Isinro Ila-Orangun, Oke Iragbiji and others, will continue to enjoy necessary government support in the coming year. Although we may not be where we are supposed to be, we are certainly making steady progress in our effort to make our Tourism Sector a money spinner for the State. For instance, we have progressed from generating cumulatively less than Two Million Naira (N2m) in three years combined (2017, 2018 and 2019) to generating more than Twenty Million Naira (N20m) in 2020 alone and so far made over Ten Million Naira (N10m). We are determined to make it better in the coming years,” Oyetola added.

Earlier, the Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye lauded the Administration of Governor Oyetola for prioritising accountability, probity and prudence in the management of the scarce resources accruable to the State.

He promised that the legislature would display the commitment needed to ensure speedy passage of the budget as it has been doing in the past saying “we will continue to play a supportive role to the executive arm to continuously better the lives of the citizens.

“I wish to commend Governor Oyetola and everyone who took part in the implementation of the 2021 budget for the wonderful job. With a 97% performance in 2020 and 77% as at the second quarter of 2021 budget, our performance has greatly increased our standing in the comity of States and also makes us an investment destination for local and foreign investors.

“It is important for us as a people to commend the Governor and his team for their probity and exceptional strategy in managing the finances of the State. Our people must also begin to reciprocate that gesture by paying their taxes accurately and promptly,” Owoeye added.

Why Osun celebrated Independence Day with essay competition – Oyetola

WHY OSUN CELEBRATED INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH ESSAY COMPETITION – OYETOLA

… announces scholarship for secondary school category winner

The Governor of Osun, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, on Monday, said Osun’s choice to celebrate the nation’s Independence with an essay competition for youths in secondary schools and tertiary institutions was to demonstrate his administration’s commitment to building the teeming youth population for future leadership.

He described the essay competition as a wake-up call to youths in the State to embrace intellectually-engaging activities and to have a taste of good life, rather than indulging in criminal activities.

This is as Oyetola announced the award of scholarship to Miss Adegboyega Abisola Faith up to the university level in any public institution of her choice within the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Oyetola described the emergence of Faith as winner of the secondary school category as a signpost of his Administration’s commitment to the provision of adequate, quality, equitable, functional and affordable education for Osun youths.

Oyetola, while receiving the winners of the 2021 edition of the essay competition at the State Secretariat, Abere, urged teachers to continue to discharge their responsibilities to students with utmost fear of God and total commitment to the teaching profession.

He added that on the part of government, the welfare of teachers and other categories of workers will continue to remain priority.

“Pensioners no longer march to our station to lament non-payment of entitlements. Osun is no longer in the news for the wrong reasons. There are no longer controversies in the public space to feast on. These are derivatives of Governor Oyetola’s calm disposition and exceptional approach to governance”, Adefila said.

Also speaking on behalf of the examiners, Dr. Mrs. Akintunde said “we are happy that this initiative is thriving at a period negative things have been happening among the youth. Osun has become a good example of good things. I must commend your support on this. It shows your deep love for educational development.”

Speaking on behalf of the parents of the winners, Dr. Femi Adeyemo applauded the Governor for putting in place an initiative capable of revamping the lost glory of the education system in the State in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

Sincerely, we are enjoying you. You have given us the hope that, truly, youths are leaders of tomorrow. As far as this initiative is concerned, it is clear that Osun is the pacesetter in education development. I congratulate the organisers, winners, the parents for believing in this initiative.

The winner of the secondary school category, Adegboyega Abisola Faith, appreciated the governor and government of Osun for the investment of strategic efforts at revamping public education in the States.

Adeyemo Victor Ayodeji, the winner of the tertiary institution category, in his remark, lauded the Oyetola Administration for the premium it has placed on quality education, adding that hope has been revived in him as a result of the quality of leadership Osun is enjoying under Oyetola.

Osun PDP Appeal Panel Chairman Compromised By Governor Seyi Makinde, Says Olaoluwa

OSUN PDP APPEAL PANEL CHAIRMAN COMPROMISED BY GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE – OLAOLUWA

The erstwhile chairman of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun state, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa has berated the Chairman of the Appeal Panel, in the just concluded Ward Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Rt. Hon. Engr. Omoreige Ogbeide-Ihama for allegedly compromised with the governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

Olaoluwa said, the chairman of the panel spoke to two of the leaders of the party in the state on Saturday 2nd October 2021 and informed them that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has Directed him to Change his Panel’s report and cancel the Osun State Ward Congress in its entirety, because the outcome of the Congress did not favour his friends in Osun State.

He said, Hon Omoreige suggested, that the Leaders of the party in Osun state should reach out to Governor Seyi Makinde to plead with the Governor to redirect him, otherwise he will have no choice but to recommend the cancelation of the entire Osun State Ward Congress.

“We make bold to assume that Hon Omoreige must have been induced financially to take Directives from Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to cancel the entire Osun State PDP Ward Congress”

“The PDP National Secretariat recently delegated a 5 man Ward Congress Committee with a Serving Senator as Chairman, along with over one hundred people from other states, who were posted to various wards to conduct the Ward Congress on Saturday 25th September 2021, which was very successful, and absolutely free of rancour and acrimony in all the wards across Osun State”

“It is therefore very unfortunate that Hon Omoreige has displayed a Complete lack of integrity in the Performance of the Duty entrusted to him by the PDP National Secretariat. Hon Omoreige has been so hopelessly COMPROMISED that he resorted to pleading with two of our Leaders to find a way to see Governor Seyi Makinde and plead with him not to cancel the Osun State Ward Congress. WHAT A SHAME !!! WHAT AN INSULT. A DISHONORABLE person like Omoreige Ogbeide-Ihama should NEVER AGAIN be given a Sensitive Assignment Such as this one, that requires INTEGRITY AND HONESTY.”

“Osun State is not Oyo State, Seyi Makinde is Governor of Oyo State and Not Premier or Governor General of South West Nigeria. Governor Seyi Makinde has No Authority, Whatsoever under the PDP Constitution to order the Cancelation of the Osun State PDP Ward Congress”

“We the Majority of the Card Carrying Members of Osun State PDP, stand by our successful Ward Congress Held on the 25th September 2021”

“Governor Seyi Makinde has Obviously Bought DISHONORABLE Omoreige Ogbeide-Ihama, But the Results of the Osun State PDP Ward Congress is Not for Sale”5

Olaoluwa however urged the National Secretariat of the party to take note of this abnormally and do the needful for the interest of democracy.
