Governments must increase supports in agriculture to curb unemployment, says Otunba Soewu

GOVTS NEED TO INCREASE SUPPORTS IN AGRICULTURE SECTOR TO CURB UNEMPLOYMENT – OTUNBA SOEWU

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of F.A Feedmills and Farms, Ijebu-Ode, Otunba Fatai Adebayo Soewu has said that both the federal and state governments need to increase supports in the agricultural sector.

Otunba Fatai Soewu on Saturday disclosed that it was imperative this critical sector is properly funded because of its capacity to help reduce problem of unemployment and boost food production in the country.

Otunba Soewu has also encouraged the youths to embrace agriculture saying that it is one of the lucrative sectors of the economy that could be explored to reduce the problem of unemployment bedeviling the country.

The reputable Farmer who also sits aboard Aquabash Table Water stated this while speaking with our Correspondent on how the country could leverage on the abundant opportunities in agriculture sector to boost food production and to reduce unemployment.

Recalling his humble beginning as a farmer, Otunba Soewu said he had started as a supplier of raw materials such as maize, sorghum,Ground nut cakes, soya beans meal, fish meal, bone meal, oyster shells among others for production of poultry feeds to the farmers within ijebu and Ogun state at large.

He added that due to the growth of the business, he decided to set up a feed mill in 1998, and was buoyed further and set up a farm with particular interests in poultry, piggery and fishery.

Otunba Soewu said the farm which took off with 18 workers in 1998 now has nothing less than 300 workers eking their living from the farm, while also contributing their quota to the economic growth and the development of the country.

He further explained that, though he diversified into other businesses such as oil and gas as well as production of bottled waters, but setting up of all these businesses were made possible and wholly financed from proceeds and profits generated from his agricultural enterprise.

He said, in spite of graduating with a Upper Credit in Accountancy from The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro which would have availed him an opportunity of being a professional in accounting field, he identified with farmers and grabbed the opportunity in agricultural sector and today he could be counted among the employers of labour in Nigeria.

Otunba Soewu disclosed further that he decided to share his personal story and experience to encourage unemployed youths in Nigeria urging them to embrace agriculture not to only boost food production but to reduce unemployment and also the poverty rate in Nigeria.

He said, this is why any government willing to reduce unemployment, eradicate poverty and also willing to boost food production can’t do without creating an enabling environment and give enormous supports to the farmers.

Otunba Soewu said these supports could be in form of provisions of no interest loans, allocation of lands for poultry and fishery , provision of tractors either for free or at subsidised price for cultivation of lands, provision of improved seedlings, good access roads among others to encourage the youths to take to agriculture.

He said, ”It’s so sad that with our good weather conditions and fertile land we have not been able to produce enough for ourselves not to talk of exporting to other countries to generate good foreign exchange and boost our economy”.

Otunba Soewu said “we still spend billions of naira on importation of rice, Soya Meal, Groundnut cake even as we speak, there is an acute shortage of maize, Soyameal, Groundnut cake, being the major raw materials for the poultry farmers. Rather than looting the treasury, our leaders should channel those funds to develop the agriculture sector. We have all it takes to feed the world”.

2023 : Action Alliance set to take over from APC, says Hon. Rufai Omoaje

2023 : ACTION ALLIANCE POISES TO TAKE OVER FROM APC – NATIONAL CHAIRMAN

The Action Alliance (AA) has declared that it is poised to taking over the reins of government from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) come 2023.

The National chairman of the party, Hon Rufai Adekunle Omoaje who spoke shortly after he was reelected at the party’s national convention held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital at the weekend, said AA is the only alternative political party for Nigerians.

Omoaje who took a swipe at both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APC, noted that the two major political parties are colossal failures, having disappointed Nigerians.

He said Nigerians are determined to take their fate in their own hands, hence the decision to join the AA, adding that some Progressive Nigerians had in the last few days identified with the party across the length and breadth of the country.

The AA National Chairman who was reelected alongside other National Executive Committee members, said both APC and PDP are not different from each other, as members of the two parties share the same political ideology.

He said “Nigerians are already tired of both the PDP and APC, which are the two major political parties we have in Nigeria today. Members of the two parties often cross carpet, which means they are one family.” “The only alternative that remains for Nigerians now is the Action Alliance.
Progressive minded people are already joining the party and you will see what will happen in the Anambra State governorship election which holds later this year and the other governorship elections which will hold before 2023,” he stressed.

He declared that the AA is already a threat to the APC, adding that the party will send APC packing at the federal level come 2023.

While condemning the policies of the APC led federal government, Omoaje urged Nigerians to vote out the party at all tiers of government and embrace the AA, which he said has welfarism agenda for the masses.

APC remains party to beat come 2022, says Osun Commissioner, Oyebamiji

OSUN 2022: APC, PARTY TO BEAT – FINANCE COMMISSIONER, OYEBAMIJI

By Sunday Oguntuyi, Osogbo

Osun state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji has described the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the party to beat in the coming 2022 gubernatorial election because the party has done tremendously well through Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

The Commissioner stated this on Wednesday while responding to questions from journalists shortly after his APC membership revalidation at his ward, Ward 9, Unit 3 Atile area in Ikire.

The Commissioner said the APC in the saddle of leadership through Governor Oyetola is the best thing that can happen to the people of Osun as the Governor is determined to continue to take the state to the next level of development.

Oyebamiji who arrived the ward in company of his wife, Dr/Mrs Shekinat Oyebamiji was welcomed by a mammoth crowd amidst pump and peasantry to kick-start the registration of party members.

He said the Governor’s zeal and passion for the development of all sectors of the state is a virtue that only the APC can deliver through any individual because growth, development, care for the masses and transparency in governance has always been the watchword of the party.

According to the Ikire born politician, “the series of achievements in the ongoing first term tenure of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is a testament to the fact it is only the APC that has the passion to sincerely develop our state.

“The infrastructural development witnessed in the state in just two years of the Oyetola administration is unprecedented and they are scattered all over the books and crannies of the state for people to see.

“Schools and hospitals are being built and renovated all over the state, the masses have always been the main target of the administration because governance is about ensuring that the majority of the people are okay.

“Salaries of Civil Servants are paid as and when due, without any form of agitation from the workers the Governor graciously approved the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage for workers”. Oyebamiji stated.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Ward, Mr Modupe Bamigboye urged all party members to troop out enmass for their registration.
