The Nigeria Union of Journalists( NUJ), Osun State Council, has rejoiced with the Ace Broadcaster and reputable journalist, Smollete Adetoyese Shittu- Alamu as he clocks 70.

According to a release signed by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu and the Secretary. Com Bukola Elufadejin described the multi talented journalist as a rare gift to this generation and quintessential in the field of journalism.

The statement described the septuagenarian as a product of discipline and meticulous hardwork who neither compromised nor traded his profession while in the active service.

The union is therefore proud to associate with the ALAMU man who remained active in the profession despite his age.

The union therefore prayed for the celebrant to live longer than his forebears.

Eburu felicitates with Christians at Christmas

EBURU FELICIATES WITH CHRISTIANS AT CHRISTMAS

The Eburu of Iba, Oba (Prof) Adekunle Adeogun Okunoye Oyedeji 11 has felicitated with Christians across the world and those in Iba in particular on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebration.

This was contained in a Press Statement, signed by the Monarch’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Bamigbola Gbolagunte and which was obtained by Nigerian Platform in Osogbo on Friday.

The monarch urged Christians to use the occasion to pray for peace in Nigeria as the country is facing serious challenges in the area of security.

Oba Okunoye specifically urged Christians to pray fervently to God for an end to insurgency, kidnapping and banditry now rampant in all parts of the country.

He also charged Christians to pray for an end to COVID 19 pandemic which is still ravaging many nations of the world including Nigeria.

The monarch who is also a seasoned educationist called on the government to work with traditional rulers at ensuring the security of the country, just as he called on security agencies to brace up on the security of lives and properties.

Also, he urged Christians to show love to others as exemplied in the life of Jesus Christ, who he said He’s the reason for the season.

He also enjoined them to demonstrate the act of giving as it was the basis for the celebration, saying that God Himself demonstrated the act of giving by given His only begotten son, Jesus Christ to mankind, hence, the need for men to do same.

NUJ raises alarm over banditry, kidnapping in South West

NUJ RAISES ALARM OVER INCREASING BANDITRY, KIDNAPPING IN SOUTH WEST

The South West Zone of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised the alarm over the increasing cases of banditry and kidnapping in the region

The union in a communique issued at the end of its meeting held in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital at the weekend, urged the South West Security outfit otherwise known as Operation Amotekun to brace up on the issue of insecurity in the region in order to bring an end to the menace, which is already ravaging the region.

In the communique signed by the Vice President of the union, Mr Cosmas Oni and the zonal secretary, Bamigbola Gbolagunte, the union urged the governors of the six states of the region to equip members of the Amotekun Corps for efficient service delivery.

The union also lamented the deplorable condition of roads in the South West region and called on the governments of the six states to rehabilitate the deplorable roads.

Besides, it also urged Nigerians to always comply with all COVID 19 precautions, while the federal government should also fast track actions on the provision of COVID-19 vaccines.

The union also enjoined the federal government to remove tarrif from newsprint to make newspaper production easy and lessen financial burdens of newspaper industries.

Oyetola, Famurewa, Moshadek, others celebrate legal year

OYETOLA, FAMUREWA, MOSHADEK, OTHERS CELEBRATE LEGAL YEAR

Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola on Tuesday hosted members of the state judiciary at a dinner to celebrate the end of the 2020 legal year.

The Governor was joined at the dinner held at the government house by the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon Ajibola Famurewa and the commissioner (Technical) in the board, Dr Moshood Adekunle Oluawo.

Others at the dinner were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Hon Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the state commissioner for Commerce, co-operative and Empowerment, Mrs Olusola Ogunfolaju and the commissioner for Political Strategy, Mr Taiwo Akeju.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oyetola lauded the members of the judiciary for their efforts at building a virile society.

In his speech, Oluawo, popularly called Moshadek hailed the judiciary for upholding the tenets of the legal practice.

Also, he commended members of the judiciary for their neutrality in the affairs of the state, just as he urged them to keep up the tempo.

Osun monarch calls for cultural re-awakening

OSUN MONARCH CALLS FOR CULTURAL RE-AWAKENING

A prominent traditional ruler in Osun State, the Eburu of Iba, Oba Adekunle Okunoye has called on the government at all levels to develop the tourism sector, for the economic development of the country.

Besides, the monarch called for the reawakening of cultural and traditional values of the Yoruba people, which he described as the best in the world.

To this end, the monarch tasked the government of all Yoruba speaking states in the country to develop the culture and tradition of the Yoruba race.

Oba Okunoye who is also a professor of Information Communication Technology spoke at the maiden Eburu Adekunle cultural renaissance held in In, headquarters of Ifelodun North Area office of Osun State.

He noted that the culture of Yoruba people is gradually going into extinction due to the poor recognition given to it by the Yoruba people and inability to promote it.

He said foreigners appreciate the culture and tradition of the Yoruba People more than the Yorubas themselves, and therefore called for a change of orientation about Yoruba culture, saying that promotion of culture and tradition does not translate to religious rebellion.

He lauded the Governor Gboyega Oyetola led administration for the values placed on culture, just as he commended the governor for his developmental strides in the last two years that he took over the reins of government in the state.

He said the state is blessed with various historical and tourist centres capable of attracting foreign investors to the state.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Obawale Adebisi who represented the Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola assured that the state government will develop all tourist centres in the state to serve as means of generating revenue.

He also assured that the state government will collaborate with traditional rulers in the state to identify tourist centres and tap into the economic benefits of the tourism sector.

He also challenged well meaning individuals in the country to invest in the tourism sector, just as he tasked the people to promote culture rather than castigating it in the name of religion.

Monarch charges health workers to be careful in handling patients’ lives

MONARCH CHARGES HEALTH WORKERS TO BE CAREFUL IN HANDLING PATIENTS’ LIVES

The Owalare of Ilare-Ijesa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Emmanuel Adejoro Otebolaku has charged the health workers in Nigeria to be more careful with the lives of their patients.

The Owalare stated this on Monday in his royal message delivered at the annual general meeting and scientific conference of the Association of Resident Doctors, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Osun State.

In his royal message, Oba Otebolaku who maintained that life is a gift of God, charged medical Doctors to deal with people with the fear and spirit of God, who does all things.

The Owalare who was accompanied by the High Chief Olajubu also urged doctors and other health workers to uphold the moral and civil regulations that guide their profession instead of seeing patients as inferior to them.

According to the Monarch, doctors must be able to maintain practicable interaction and good relationship with their parents.

“In your discharge of duties, I urge you to uphold the moral and civil regulations that guide your profession, respect the dignity of your patients and do not see them as inferior human beings in your interaction with them” Oba Otebolaku stated.

He also charged them to revive the hope of existence in people rather than denigrating them in the line of their duties. *Maintain good doctor-and-patient relationship, counsel them and let them see hope in their existence even in their sickness”, he emphasized.

The Monarch who appreciated Governor Gboyega Oyetola for establishing Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS) for civil servants and the general public in Osun State, prayed that no life will be lost as the year 2020 is running to an end.

“It is a good initiative to improve health care delivery in the state, but my advice for Government is that they should be more careful in the accreditation of hospitals that are used for the scheme, only hospitals with good facilities and personnel should be approved for the scheme. Above all, I commend the State Governor Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola for introduction of the scheme and I call on people to make use of the opportunity”, Oba Otebolaku added.

NUJ Osun to induct prominent Nigerians into Hall of Fame

NUJ TO INDUCT PROMINENT NIGERIANS INTO HALL OF FAME IN OSUN

Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State council will on Thursday hold 2020 edition of induction into NUJ hall of fame.

A statement by the Chairman of the union Comrade WasiuAjadosu and Secretary comrade Bukola Elufadejin indicated that the event which hold at NUJ press centre,Osogbo by eleven o’clock in the morning will be chaired by the former chairman of the union and General Manager of Kings FM,Ibadan,Pastor Kayode Akinsola.

The statement noted that the royal fathers of the day include Olufon of Ifon orolu,Oba Moroof Magbagbeola and Loja of Ibodi,Oba Omisade Agboluaje while the state Head of Service,Dr Oyebade Olowogboyega is the Special Guest of Honour.

It maintained that the Executive Director of Centre for Black culture and international understanding and a Professor of History,Professor Siyan Oyeweso will speak on the paper titled National Security Challenges in the face of Recession:Endless Road to Nation Building.

The statement added that the former Secretary of NUJ in Osun state and Ogun State Commandant NSCDC, Alhaji Hammed Bodunrin, The Member,House of Representatives, Honourable Lawrence Ayeni,Osun state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Honourable Yekini Adebayo Adeleke ,The Chairman of Atakumosa East local Government, Honourable Femi Kujenbola and the chairman of AAF Foundation, Engineer Adedapo Adelowokan will be inducted into the union Hall of fame.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Chief Moshood Adekunle Oluawo has called for the reawakening of cultural and traditional values of the Yoruba people.
