Governor Adeleke ignores distractions, set to flag off dualisation of Ila-Orangun township road

GOVERNOR ADELEKE IGNORES DISTRACTIONS, SET TO FLAG OFF DUALISATION OF ILA-ORANGUN TOWNSHIP ROAD

Governor Ademola Adeleke remained undistracted by unsubstantiated statements on national television by some politicians particularly a failed governorship candidate as he is set to flag off the dualisation of Ila Orangun township road and the second phase dualization of Osogbo – Ikirun – Ila Odo Kwara State Boundary road.

“The said politician and few others have said all sorts of things which are at variance with the reality and facts of our achievements in the infrastructure sector across Osun state. These misrepresentations and misinformation have only strengthened my resolve to push ahead with the all inclusive infrastructure upgrade and delivery of good governance in our dear state”, Governor Adeleke was quoted as saying this evening while hosting some Osun elders who paid a courtesy visit to him.

According to the governor, his administration has positively transformed Osun state as acknowledged by local and international bodies, citing several reports by federal agencies and non-governmental groups, which rated Osun very high across all indices.

He flaunted several awards on infrastructure revolution, health sector excellence, new examination performance rating, digital economy innovation, agricultural mechanisation, sport sector reforms, business sector enhancement, water sector upgrade and artisanal cooperative empowerment, declaring “our excellent performance was affirmed by patriots, lovers of true developments, friends and even foes.

“The latest national table on states fiscal transparency for 2025 first quarter places Osun in number 5 position out of 36 states. Our administration is transparent, accountable, and compliant with due process requirements.

“Our critics are worried by our extraordinary performance within less than three years, hence their resorts to name calling, blackmail and libelous allegations. We will not get distracted by petty politicking and desperate attempts to stop our rigorous service to the people.

“In continuation of our pact and promises to the people, our people of Ila Orangun, Ifelodun, and Odo Otin local governments will host me next week. I will be flagging off the dualisation of Ila Orangun township road as well as the second phase of Osogbo-Ikirun -Okuku highway dualisation.

“Myself and my team remain focussed and undistracted. I commend Osun people for their support and unwavering commitment to good governance as represented by our government”, the governor told the visiting elders.

Governor Adeleke to Aregbesola: Osun people have not forgotten your sordid, evil records as a Governor

GOVERNOR ADELEKE TO AREGBESOLA: OSUN PEOPLE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOUR SORDID, EVIL RECORDS AS A GOVERNOR

Osun state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has reacted to threats by Mr Rauf Aregbesola to remove him from office in 2026, reminding the former Governor that Osun is still suffering from the inhumane maladministration he inflicted on the state while in office.

In a statement issued today at Osogbo, Governor Adeleke through his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, castigated the former Governor as “a man who left a legacy of huge state debt, half salary, scam tablets and several fanciful, inflated, uncompleted projects”, describing his tenure as “the worst in Osun history”

“The empty boast of Mr Aregbesola about 2026 is a symptom of a troubled mind who sees wrong vision, who is battling his benefactor and who is haunted by the pains and suffering he inflicted on millions of Osun people through his evil policies and programmes. A man who should be remorseful and tender public apologies for his years of maladministration has the audacity to threaten Governor Adeleke who is clearing the mess left behind by Mr Aregbesola after his eight years of anti-people, thoughtless leadership.

“Mr Aregbesola’s wickedness against workers, public servants, and Osun people knows no bounds while he wielded state power. A man who introduced half salary, misapplied contributory state pension fund and misused state cooperative deductions fund should be ashamed of his temerity to attack a Governor who is now paying up the half salary affliction, clearing the unjustified debt and rehabilitating brutalised Osun workers.

“The Adeleke administration has paid 28 months out of the half salary left behind by Mr Aregbesola. The present administration has paid close to 60 billion naira in pension debt, a legacy of this same Aregbesola. Pensioners and workers generally are not praying for a return to the evil days of a bad administrator who left his state in ruin after eight years.”, the statement noted.

The news release read further: “Within less than three years, Governor Adeleke has surpassed government delivery of the eight years of Mr Aregbesola without borrowing a kobo for infrastructure projects. The current administration has reduced Osun debt left by Mr Aregbesola by 40 percent as confirmed by the Debt Management Office.

“Mr Aregbesola is invited to note that Governor Adeleke has constructed about 200 Kilometers of roads, rehabilitated over 200 schools and health centers, placed over 30, 000 pensioners on free health insurance care, provided critical medical surgeries to over 60,000 Osun residents, Completed several abandoned projects at Osun State University, made University of Ilesa a reality among several others.

“If Mr Aregbesola is to accuse Governor Adeleke of non-performance, we await his review of the dualisation of palace to brewery junction at Ilesa which he failed to achieve while in office. He should check out the flyover projects at Ile Ife and Osogbo and the dualisation projects ongoing at Iwo among others.

“Osun people know their present and past Governors. Our people are smart enough to know that the worst era for Osun state is that of Mr Aregbesola under whom many pensioners lost their lives, thousands of lives were disrupted, and the state plunged into unsustainable debt that is still hurting the state till date. No voter in Osun is ready for a return to the dark days.

“We therefore dismiss Mr Aregbesola’s boast as a blurry vision of another world other than Osun where Governor Adeleke has received accolades and awards for delivering on good governance and where Osun people have appreciated the local content policy, the non-borrowing policy, and the people’s first style of the current governor.

“Mr Aregbesola is a shrew (Asin ti o mo pe ohun unrun) who does not know that he is smelling. 2026 is a payback time when Osun people will punish the former Governor and his new party for wilfully inflicting pains and suffering on Osun people throughout his eight years rule”, the statement concluded.

Osun State Ministry of Commerce, Industry…. strengthening Osun’s economy through realistic, inclusive growth

OSUN STATE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY

Strengthening Osun’s Economy Through Realistic and Inclusive Growth

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Osun State remains committed to building a supportive environment for business and sustainable industrial growth. Under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, efforts have been focused on practical, achievable and relentless steps to strengthen economic opportunities for residents across the state. With Osun’s natural strengths—its people, resources, and strategic location—there is real potential to grow the local economy in ways that are inclusive and sustainable.

Small and medium-sized enterprises continue to form the backbone of the state’s economic activity. From local traders and artisans to small manufacturers and service providers, these enterprises play a vital role in community livelihoods and job creation. The Ministry has continued to support this sector through community engagement, access to capital structures, and information-sharing on business development. While access to capital remains a common challenge, encouraging collective savings and low-interest borrowing through Bank of Industry (BOI) has made a meaningful difference for many.

Steps have also been taken to encourage more business owners to formalize their operations. Making business registration and related processes simpler helps entrepreneurs gain visibility, build credibility, and benefit from existing government and private-sector programmes. Improvements in this area are ongoing, with attention given to transparency and reducing unnecessary delays.

As digital tools become more relevant in today’s economy, the Ministry has been helping small businesses and traders understand how mobile banking, online sales, and basic digital promotion can support growth. In many communities, awareness is increasing, and more entrepreneurs are beginning to embrace new ways of reaching customers and managing their finances.

Industrial development, though still at a growing stage in the state, is another area receiving attention. Osun has potentials, particularly in agro-processing linked to crops like cassava, maize, and oil palm. Supporting small-scale processing initiatives has not only improved local productivity but also helped reduce post-harvest losses. Collaboration with relevant agencies, farmer groups and technical partners continues to guide these efforts.

There are also reviews underway to assess how existing industrial sites and facilities can be revitalized or better utilized. These discussions are handled with care, with priority placed on transparency, due diligence, and long-term benefit for the state. Encouraging the right kind of investment—one that respects the local content and delivers value to communities—is central to this approach.

Infrastructure remains a challenge in some rural areas, particularly in relation to power supply and road networks. These issues affect the speed at which businesses can grow or industrial activities can expand. The ministry, alongside other arms of government, continues to advocate for gradual improvements and explore local solutions where possible. These efforts, while ongoing, are part of a wider plan to create a more supportive environment for both small and larger businesses.

In the aforementioned, kudos must be given to the people’s Governor, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, who has surpassed his predecessors, in completely eschewing the infrastructural deficit inherited from the previous administration. The giant strides of Governor Adeleke in road construction and rehabilitation across the State is verifiable, conspicuous and sustainable, without borrowing a dime.

Also, Osun State Living Spring Free Trade Zone, which was abandoned by successive administrations of the State, has now been resuscitated, by the Ministry under the able leadership of the Governor.

Osun’s public markets have also benefited from targeted interventions. Selected markets have received support in the form of roofing repairs, stall arrangements, drainage upgrades, and sanitation improvements. These efforts aim to improve the overall trading experience and promote a clean, safe and organized market atmosphere. Working closely with market leaders and unions ensures that projects are aligned with the actual needs of traders and their customers.

Some Federal Government Agencies such as NANO, SMEDAN, etc have continued to play an important role in grassroots economic empowerment. Many traders and artisans, especially women, have accessed grants, soft loans and training through well-organized, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. These structures have proven to be effective tools for building resilience, reducing dependency, and promoting shared progress within communities.

Osun’s location offers real opportunities for regional trade, and efforts are underway to strengthen connections with nearby states. Improving logistics, expanding access to local produce, and supporting cross-border commerce are part of the ministry’s broader vision to open more channels of trade for Osun-based businesses.

Youth empowerment remains a priority. The ministry has partnered with vocational centers, NGOs, and community groups to deliver training in areas such as tailoring, welding, hairdressing, baking, shoemaking, and ICT. Many young people have benefited, gaining the skills and confidence needed to start their own small enterprises. Support through tools, mentorship, and basic startup guidance continues to be provided where possible.

The Osun Industrial Investment Summit 2024 continues to be pointed as a reference point for the opening of ways by which economic transformation of the State can be achieved. The Ministry, in collaboration with other agencies of government in the sector, has been working ceaselessly to engage investors and facilitate responsible partnerships across key sectors like agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing. While not every enquiry results in an investment, many conversations have laid the foundation for future collaboration. Transparency and mutual respect remain guiding values in these engagements.

Throughout all activities, inclusion remains central. Women, persons with disabilities, and underserved communities are being given deliberate attention, with efforts made to ensure broad access to programmes and opportunities. Economic development must reflect the diversity and dignity of the people it serves.

The road is not without challenges. Like many states, Osun faces constraints around funding, infrastructure, and administrative bottlenecks. However, through steady planning, focused action, and partnership with communities, progress is being made. The ministry remains committed to listening, learning, and adjusting its approach where necessary.

In moving forward, everyone has a role to play. Government, private sector players, civil society, youth, and community leaders must all work together to unlock Osun’s economic potential. By focusing on what is real, sustainable, and inclusive, the state can continue to make quiet but meaningful progress that touches lives and strengthens the future.

Ozekhome rebukes Adegoke’s letter, warns against distortion of court rulings

OZEKHOME REBUKES ADEGOKE’S LETTER, WARNS AGAINST DISTORTION OF COURT RULINGS

Renowned constitutional lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, has faulted a letter authored by his learned colleague, Mr. Kunle Adegoke, SAN, over claims regarding the status of the sacked Local Government Chairmen in Osun State.

In a detailed rejoinder made available to journalists, Prof. Ozekhome described Adegoke’s widely circulated seven-page letter, dated June 26, 2025, as “misleading” and “legally distorted,” particularly in its interpretation of the Court of Appeal judgment in Appeal No: CA/AK/270/2022.

Ozekhome noted that Adegoke failed to extend the courtesy of sharing the letter with him directly, despite referencing his legal opinion extensively. “That omission speaks volumes,” he remarked.

He clarified that the Court of Appeal, in its judgment delivered on February 10, 2025, did not affirm the reinstatement of the APC Chairmen and Councillors who were removed following the controversial local government elections of October 15, 2022. According to him, the appellate court merely struck out the PDP’s suit on procedural grounds, having deemed the issues “academic.”

“The court made it clear that it did not delve into the merits of the alleged reinstatement. Any contrary claim is plainly false,” Ozekhome stated.

He accused the Osun State chapter of the APC of deliberately misrepresenting the ruling in a bid to regain control of the local councils, warning that such conduct undermines both judicial integrity and democratic principles.

Prof. Ozekhome further emphasized that the judgment of the Federal High Court in Suit No: FHC/OS/CS/103/22, delivered on November 30, 2022, had unequivocally sacked the APC officials. He added that all attempts to relitigate or overturn that judgment have failed. He pointed out that the Court of Appeal dismissed the APC’s appeal on January 13, 2025, for lack of diligent prosecution and subsequently rejected their application for relisting on June 13, 2025.

“Even after fresh elections were conducted on February 22, 2025, to fill the vacant council seats, the APC still falsely paraded the claim of being reinstated,” he added.

Ozekhome also referenced a separate suit filed by the Action Peoples Party (APP), which led to the nullification of the APC-led local elections. That judgment, he noted, remains valid and binding pursuant to Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution.

He criticized Mr. Adegoke for what he described as “a deliberate attempt to mislead” the Chief Law Officer of the Federation and other authorities by presenting a distorted legal narrative.

“It is disheartening when senior members of the Bar resort to twisting judicial pronouncements for political ends,” Ozekhome stated, urging the authorities to rely on authentic court judgments, not partisan interpretations.

He challenged Adegoke and the APC to produce any portion of the Court of Appeal judgment where it explicitly ordered the reinstatement of the sacked officials, stressing that no such directive exists.

Toward the conclusion of his rejoinder, Prof. Ozekhome respectfully urged the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to:

  • Give effect to the Court of Appeal judgment delivered on June 13, 2025, which reaffirmed the valid Federal High Court judgment of November 30, 2022, and which remains binding under Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
  • Issue appropriate directives to the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to vacate all illegal occupiers from the Local Government Council Secretariats across Osun State who continue to parade themselves as APC Chairmen and Councillors without any valid judicial or electoral mandate.
  • Recognize and provide full legal backing to the PDP Chairmen and Councillors who were duly elected on February 22, 2025, pursuant to the valid OSSIEC notice of February 19, 2024, and in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022.
  • Refrain from entertaining or acting upon any misleading correspondence or submissions aimed at resurrecting a dismissed appeal, or destabilizing the lawful government of Osun State at the local level through judicial manipulation or political subterfuge.
  • Protect and uphold the Constitution, the rule of law, and democratic governance, by ensuring that justice is not only done, but is manifestly seen to be done, in line with binding court decisions and existing electoral laws.

Prof. Ozekhome concluded by reaffirming his confidence in the Attorney-General’s commitment to constitutionalism and called for swift action to prevent further erosion of public confidence in the legal and democratic process.
